Birds and Wildlife
Abundant wildlife makes the Byway region a favorite for wildlife viewers, photographers, hunters, and anglers. Bring your binoculars and watch for the more than 300 bird species observed along the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway. Though impressive any time of the year, bird numbers explode here in spring and fall, when millions of migrating birds rest and refuel at Byway wetlands. Watch, too, for the region's many mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, from burrowing owls and bobcats to painted turtles and milk snakes.
