Dramatic weather is a way of life along the Byway. The people and landscape of the Byway region have adapted to a spectrum of weather that includes drought, flooding, intense heat, intense cold, blizzards, spectacular thunderstorms, wild winds, and tornados. As you travel the Byway, you'll see constant evidence of the shaping forces of weather-from Depression-era shelterbelt plantings that protect soils from persistent winds to restoration of a tornado-ravaged community.
